Phyllis Braxton is a native of Moss Point, Mississippi. She moved to Minnesota in 1994 after graduating in the top 4% of her high school class of 404 students and receiving a BA in English Language & Literature from Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia on Presidential Scholarship. In 1995 she received a M.Ed. in Adult Education from the University of Minnesota on full academic scholarship. She has worked for the St. Paul Urban League as Director of Teen Pregnancy Prevention and the Girl Scout Council of St. Croix Valley as a Membership Development Director. She currently works for Minnesota Independent School Forum as Director of Multicultural Services where she supports 40 private high schools in the state of Minnesota on advancing their diversity initiatives. She also is a doctoral student at the University of Minnesota pursuing a degree in Human Resource Development with a specialization in Training & Development with regard to diversity also on academic scholarship.

Phyllis has facilitated diversity conversations with over 2500 adults and 3500 youth. Phyllis’ humor and intellectual savvy makes her a great advocate for change in schools and organizations. Her philosophy is to help people aspire to become allies through becoming aware of “privilege” and taking responsibility for those things within their reach. According to Phyllis, “time out for blaming and shaming, time-in for raised levels of consciousness and action.” Phyllis is also President and Founder of Pink Consulting LLC

Phyllis is the daughter of Viola, mother of Ivy Zaire and wife to James.
