Rickey Hall received his B.A. degree in American Studies with an emphasis in Race and Ethnic Relations at the University of Iowa in 1992 and an M.A. degree in Higher Education also at the University of Iowa in 1995. He is currently pursuing his doctorate in Educational Policy and Administration at the University of Minnesota.
Rickey has worked in Multicultural/Diversity Affairs on college campuses for the past decade. He is currently the founding Director of Multicultural Services in the University of Minnesota’s School of Public Health. As director Rickey is responsible for leading efforts that foster an inclusive environment within the school. He has also worked at the University of Minnesota, Morris, and at Wartburg College in Iowa.
Rickey has expertise in creating innovative programs that encourage discussion around diversity, multiculturalism and inclusion. He has worked with high schools, colleges, and local organizations on change, creating a diversity plan, cultural responsiveness, and the recruitment and retention of staff of color.
Rickey has experience securing grants to aid him and others in doing the “work.” One example of this is securing a $141,000 grant at a previous institution to establish a Diversity Community Outreach Program. The program with its focus on the community and not the institution, promoted human rights and equality by working to dismantle the barriers of racism and bigotry that prevent inclusive communities.
Rickey is an alumnus of the Social Justice Training Institute, Minnesota Campus Compact’s Multicultural Education and Social Change Initiative, and One Ummah’s Diversity Explorations program.
Rickey is passionate about multicultural education, social justice, and social change. A common thread throughout all of his work is a willingness to engage in honest and constructive dialogue and an ability to build alliances among varying constituencies.
