Sarah Gleason loves learning, and loves helping others to learn. She believes all people should have the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to work together, build inclusive communities and shape their common futures. Sarah works as a trainer and consultant, and is an active community leader. She is a partner in Side by Side Associates, focusing on community building, leadership, civic engagement and cultural diversity. Sarah also teaches courses on international development at the University of Minnesota, and works part-time at Fieldstone Alliance, a nonprofit capacity building organization.
Since 1999, Sarah has worked with AmeriCorps members and staff both locally and nationally. She works locally with a variety of educational, community-based and nonprofit organizations on short- and long-term projects. Sarah is also strongly involved in faith-based social justice organizing in the Twin Cities.
Sarah’s previous experience includes many years training Peace Corps volunteers in West and Central Africa, including serving as the training coordinator at a large Peace Corps training center. Her focus there was on community development, non-formal education and cross-cultural adaptation. Sarah also served as a Peace Corps volunteer herself, working with fish farmers in Burundi. Sarah comes from a large extended family and was educated in Catholic schools in Minneapolis. She has a Master of Education degree focused on adult education and is fluent in French. Sarah’s husband is from Senegal.
